Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 victory in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, our city, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now slugged 23 playoff homers, placing him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot except for George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, remain the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.

The Blue Jays claimed the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
