Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions. The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in the French Alps Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Injury Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning 20 years. She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
