Seconds before he was crowned, a trepidatious worry raced through his mind. He revealed he was concerned, "Please don't let it be an F1 driver once more."

"This has been a fantastic night for golf," the champion said. "Golf was honored in such a major way, with the team winning and then with my award. It's a special evening for golf, and hopefully we can capitalize on that."

On this occasion, however, there was no late twist. The outcome was uncontested, allowing a thrilled McIlroy to savor a blockbuster evening for both himself and the European Ryder Cup winners, who were named the top squad.

Non-Stop Adventures

Choosing not to stay for the post-ceremony celebrations, McIlroy was already thinking about his upcoming event. After played in the Golf Channel Games in Florida and jetted to the UK, he was returning immediately to Miami.

"The last 24 hours have been a hectic 24 hours," McIlroy explained. "I'm looking forward to a little bit of a break over Christmas."

Unfinished Business

That said, McIlroy stated he has no plans to rest on his laurels, even after achieving the set of all four majors earlier in the year. "My belief is I've got a more to give in me," he remarked.

"More majors, season-long rankings, international events, that's great. But as long as you feel like you can keep improving and have the hunger, that's the most important thing."

Collective Honor

Meanwhile, Ryder Cup partner Tommy Fleetwood, who was on stage to receive the team award, also lauded golf's remarkable night and his pal's award.

"They are the moments that will live with us forever so to get the fan's acknowledgment for that is really cool," Fleetwood said. "Seeing Rory receive that award, I think he is so worthy so much."

Upon hearing that McIlroy was only the third player from golf to win the award in its seven-decade run, Fleetwood chuckled before adding, "Not a very popular bunch are we!"

Future Goals

His goal is to secure his maiden major next year but he recognized McIlroy still thirsts for more success. "As long as you want to be the ultimate competitor, and you're still motivated, you'll find things to improve," he noted.

Football Loyalty

Prior to his departure, one final question arose. As a huge Manchester United fan, he has been requested to display his trophies at Old Trafford before. So could he be tempted to do it again after his recent triumphs?

"As long as they stop conceding so many goals on their own pitch," he replied with a grin. "They're getting better. There's a hint of positivity around."

On the back of a truly spectacular season, it's no wonder that he is looking on the positive aspects.
