There are those on the opposing sides who offer only grievance: Labour is getting on with the job of economic renewal.

During the recent fiscal announcement, we made the right choices for Britain, cutting the cost of energy with savings of £150 on utilities, defending public healthcare and addressing the issue of youth deprivation by removing the two-child limit. Measures were also taken that the revenue we raised through taxes was done equitably, with all paying their share but those with the greatest capacity bearing an appropriate burden.

Due to the decisions enacted, the budget established a firmer financial footing, driving down inflation and government bond yields. This is vital for protecting our public services, when one pound in every ten expended by government goes on loan repayments.

Advancing Financial Initiatives

The budget builds on the action we have already taken to improve the economy: directing £120bn toward new investments in such things as highways, railways and utilities; enacting the biggest planning reforms in a generation to support developers, not obstructionists; advocating for the growth of Heathrow and Gatwick; and establishing trading partnerships with the EU, India and the US.

Collectively, these have allowed us to surpass our economic projections.

Renewing Our Nation

As I set out at the party conference, the government’s purpose is precisely the renewal of our financial system, our localities and our government. Through this approach, we will end decline and rebuild trust in our country.

We will take on those on the left and right who only offer dissatisfaction and whose approach would lead to continued weakening. Allow me to state unequivocally, turning on the borrowing taps or bringing back fiscal restraint – that is the politics of decline and I cannot endorse it.

A Comprehensive Growth Mission

During an address next week, I will frame the economic measures within the broader financial revitalization on which the government will be assessed following completion of this parliament.

For us to realize the countrywide revitalization we seek, we must do more to promote development, to combat unemployment among young people and to seek enhanced global partnership with our trading partners.

Administrative Streamlining Program

Our development strategy will include a refreshed emphasis on eliminating needless bureaucracy. Frequently it was those on the left who have supported restrictions, but there is nothing forward-thinking in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to slow down economic growth unnecessarily, or prevent a Labour government achieving its aims.

That is why I am asking the business secretary to confront the variety of pointless gold-plating and unnecessary red tape that add to costs and impede our industrial strategy.

Social Security Reform

Financial revitalization likewise requires that we must continue to modernize the benefits system. We assumed control of a dysfunctional apparatus that left children too poor to eat and which discarded youth as unfit for labor.

We cannot tolerate either part of that ineffective right-wing framework. Hence the reason we will do more to help young people achieve their potential.

For when people are neglected in your early career, if you are not given the support you need to overcome your mental health issues, or if you are simply written off because you are neurodivergent or disabled, then it can trap you in a cycle of worklessness and dependency for decades.

This costs the country money, is bad for our productivity, but much more importantly, it removes potential and ignores potential. Any progressive administration worthy of the name should not overlook it.

This is the reason we have tasked a previous healthcare official to make practical recommendations to help young people with wellbeing challenges secure jobs, training or education – ensuring they are supported to succeed instead of excluded.

Global Commerce Improvement

Finally, we have to do more to help our businesses conduct global commerce. No believable commercial perspective for Britain that does not establish us as a accessible, commercial nation.

We must confront the reality that the botched Brexit deal significantly hurt our economy. It isn't necessary to have a PhD in economics to know that establishing superfluous business impediments with your primary business associate will hurt growth and raise the cost of living.

Therefore a component of our economic renewal will be persisting in advancing toward a closer trading relationship with the EU. When we can access more affordable sustenance, improve development and produce work opportunities by having a stronger connection with Europe, we should.

A Meaningful Approach for Major Issues

A budget based on fair choices for Britain must be backed up with a determination to achieve the economic renewal that the country needs.

Through implementing a substantial, courageous extended strategy, not a set of temporary solutions, we will renew Britain. We need to transform once more a meaningful society, with a serious government, able collectively to undertake challenging tasks to retake charge of our prospects.

By having a clear mission to rejuvenate our finances, our localities and our nation, we will implement the transformation we pledged – and then be assessed according to it in the forthcoming poll.
