It might not have been at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term. “Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.” This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House. The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year. A Peaceful Retirement The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release. “The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message. “It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.” Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
